Mushonga, music and harmony at Songfest

SAN ANTONIO – Brethren from across the region will gather to remember the Lord in musical, brotherly, and sisterly harmony beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23. Many will share a home-style meal and then go into the Northside Church of Christ auditorium for the 13th Annual Evening of Spiritual Harmony.

Lynette Kennedy, Coordinator of the San Antonio/Austin Southwestern Christian College Committee, says, “We encourage you to come out and enjoy a spirit-filled evening as we strive to raise the bar on our level of support for SwCC and its students.”

Shane Mushonga, director of admissions for the college and minister at Faith Pointe Church of Christ in Fort Worth, will provide an update on campus developments.  He will also will be the guest speaker on Sunday, Sept. 24, for Northside’s 8:30 and 11:15 a.m. assemblies. Between the two services, young men from the college and from the Northside and the Dellcrest congregations will lead a mid-assembly songfest.

The menu of comfort food on Saturday includes one choice of meat (angus roast beef, glazed ham, or oven-roasted chicken), green beans, and a choice of two additional sides (macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, or sweet potatoes), a roll, and iced tea.   Prepaid tickets for the meal are required. The cost is $12 for ages 13-adult and $7 for children 12 years old and under.  Please make all checks payable to SwCC Fund.  This meal will be available in the upstairs fellowship area and will conclude at 5 p.m.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. the SwCC Choral Ensemble will kick off the songfest. Joining them in concert will be some enjoyable groups from the past—Sterling, the Hour of Truth Chorus (from Austin), and Poured Out.

New to the line-up this year are the Central Texas Mass Chorus and The Johnson Family of Valdosta, Ga. The three older children in the Johnson Family were recently seen on TV’s Steve Harvey’s “Little Big Shots.”

Although there is no admission charge for the concert, donations will be accepted and are tax deductible as the funds benefit SwCC and its students in the areas of academic support and improvement to student housing.  Immediately after the concert, cookies and lemonade will be served in the downstairs fellowship area.

Northside meets at 19818 U.S. Hwy 281N. For more information about the weekend or to purchase meal tickets, please contact Lynette Kennedy at 210-313-1457, Laura McKnight at 210-337-2044, or David Allen, pulpit minister of the Northside Church of Christ, at 210-494-1907.
