Focal Point uplift coming soon

The sessions fill quickly at Focal Point each year.

SAN MARCOS – Regarding the annual preacher’s workshop here, Minister Wayne Jones says, “God has entrusted us with a great work, and our prayer is that Focal Point will be of service to those who are fulfilling that work.” The University church of Christ event goes from May 5-10 this year and is free of charge.
Dwayne Butler of the Blackwater Macedonia church of Christ in Jasper, Ala., posted this message from home after last year’s session.
“My family and I just pulled into our driveway after the long trip home from San Marcos. I wanted to take a few minutes to praise your wonderful church family. I don’t know that I have ever seen people more hospitable. Also, when it comes to service, the University congregation stands behind no one.
“Focal Point is a blessing to me as a preacher and a blessing to my family. I am home and as tired as I can be, but can’t wait to get into the pulpit on Sunday morning. That’s what Focal Point does for the preacher.
“Thank you to everyone who is involved. To the elders, thank you for the foresight to see the need for such a program. To the preachers, thank you for your invaluable service at University. To the members, thank you for the hospitality, for the meals, and for the servant attitudes found in each of you. Thank you for every smile throughout the week to make us feel at home. God bless you all for the work that you do. Until next year….”
The first lesson on Saturday begins at 6:30 p.m. Sunday’s sessions are scheduled for 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. and 5 and 6 p.m. The young people will begin “Youth First Sunday” events at noon.
Coffee, donuts and morning melodies kick off each weekday at 8 a.m. The bell rings for the first lesson at 9:15. Each day ends with the closing session at 8 p.m. The last class begins at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Throughout, special classes are scheduled for women and elders, too.
On Monday, some of the lessons range from the principles of effective Bible classes to dealing with addictions and on to the principles of effective writing.
Tuesday features things your preacher may not tell you, having difficult conversations, holy dating and the one sentence that says it all on the mountain.
The Wednesday discussions include “When Culture Closes In,” keeping them by closing the back door, the value of accountability and teaching leaders in training.
Thursday morning closes out the series with lessons on three things that the church needs: an exalted concept of, an appetite for, and an enthusiastic worship of God.
At a cost of $10 per day or $30 for the week, childcare is available for those from ages six months to six years
The detailed schedule and online registration link are available at univcofc.org. The church office provides housing information at 512-353-2487.
