Jones serves Northside students

Jenni Joznes

SAN ANTONIO – The Northside congregation has extended a warm welcome to new Youth Minister, Jenni Jones. Jenni grew up in the church and attended youth group activities at New Hope Church of Christ in Edmond, Okla., where her family members still go.
Of this turn in her life, Jenni muses: “I had never aspired to be a youth minister – it was simply something I developed a giant passion for as I went through college. Middle and high school students are my favorites to interact with.”
She was born in Edmond and grew up as the youngest of four children, with two older sisters and an older brother. At Yukon High School, she served as a member and officer of the Student Council all four years. During those years, she also made the varsity soccer team, serving as captain as a senior.
The summer after graduation, Jenni went on a three-week mission trip to Ghana, West Africa. She learned a great deal about Ghanaian culture, how to love others wholly and selflessly, and how to follow Jesus in full surrender.
When she returned home, she spent the rest of the summer as an intern at an inner city church in downtown Oklahoma City called Capitol Hill Church of Christ.
Jenni was put in charge of the nine-to-ten-year old class. Each day brought different challenges, but those kids taught her the importance of Jesus’ love in a child’s life.
After that, Jenni went on to Oklahoma Christian University (OC) to play soccer and earn a degree. Wanting to get involved in more than just soccer, she stopped playing after the first season and branched out.
She became active in academic, social, and sports-related activities, learning to be a leader. She also participated in a two-week mission trip to Haiti during the summer after her sophomore year and spent the rest of the break as a youth intern at the Memorial Road Church of Christ in Edmond. In the summer between the junior and senior years at OC, she went back to Haiti, visited Costa Rica and helped out with church camp.
Jenni graduated from OC in April, 2019, with two degrees: public relations and vocational ministry. She made many memories and friends during her college years that will last her a lifetime.
Now that she is living in San Antonio and working as a youth minister, she says: “I can’t wait to grow in my relationship with Northside, with each kid in the youth group, and with my Savior through this experience.”
